Sustainability

We love crafting but we love people and our planet even more

Our Aim at Stitch Happy is to have as little negative impact as we can on the planet and people who live in it. We are a small business with big dreams. To bring sustainable crafting into the mainstream. It is not easy. Sometimes the products we want to buy don't exist and we aren't always big enough to be able to get them made. We are working on it!!

Eco-friendly crafting

Our sustainability mission

We feel like it's no good getting the amazing mindful benefits of our craft kits if we are doing other people and the planet harm in the process, that just doesn't sit easy with us. That's why we source the most eco-friendly and ethical fabrics and materials we can to make our craft kits. It just makes sense to us. We hope it does to you too.

Eco-friendly fabric choices

GOTS Certified organic cotton

We love the GOTS label as it creates a code of practices which cover all stages and processes involved in the production of ethical fabrics. This includes the social and welfare needs of the people making it as well of the environmental impact.

Environmental Standards

A textile product carrying the GOTS label and stating it is organic must contain a minimum of 95% certified organic fibres.

Organic fibres are natural fibres grown without the use of synthetic pesticides (such as insecticides), or herbicides and GMOs (Genetic Modified Organisms) according to the principles of organic agriculture. Organic agriculture is a production process that sustains the health of ecosystems, soils and people.

Ethical Standards

The following ethical standards must be in place

  • Employment is freely chosen
  • Freedom of association and collective bargaining
  • Child labour shall not be used
  • No discrimination is practised
  • Occupational health and safety (OHS) is in place
  • No harassment and violence is tolerated
  • Remuneration and assessment of living wage gap is carried out.
  • Working time guidelines are followed
  • No precarious employment is provided

Plastic-free packaging

Recycled and FSC approved

  • All of our paper inserts and booklets are made from recycled paper, printed using vegetable based inks, and are fully recyclable.
  • We believe there is never any need for plastic packaging. Any plastic you do find in your parcel will be from us re-using something we have received into our studio.
  • Our cardboard craft kit boxes are made in europe, contain a minimum of 70% recycled materials and are FSC certified. Our suppliers work with the charity 'One Tree Planted' to ensure that more trees are planted than are used in the production of our boxes.
  • Our mailing bags are plastic-free and come with a double seal so that you can re-use them. Our padded bags use recycled paper pulp to keep your order safe.
